On Thursday, December 14th, NOAA has turned off the current GOES-13 (East) weather satellite and replaced it with the more advanced GOES-16 (GOES-R) satellite. Users will see a gap in the satellite imagery as Unisys works to release an update to the visualization software used to make the satellite images and loops. We hope to have that online by Friday, December 15th.
We are aware that the new GOES-16 imagery has issues with plotting on the sat/sfc map, as well as the composites of East/West on some of the hemispheric images (currently they show GOES-16 only, and do not cover Alaska and most of the Pacific due to GOES-16′s location). We are working to resolve the issue.
